Calvary helps sponsor 9 families involved in world missions. They serve as church planters, Bible translators and teachers of the Word around the world.
Our Mission Committee updates the congregation on a different missionary each Sunday morning. They inform the congregation of latest reports and to advise of specific prayer requests for the mission focus.
For a glimpse of those we support and their locations and service:
Jeff and Patty Borden, with children Matthew and Lydia, are serving in the Capetown, South Africa area. Jeff has been teaching for more than a year at Emmaus Bible School in Khayelitsha (pop: one million). Jeff is also a founding father of the new seminary (Guguletu Bible College). The teachers and 16 students are now able to utilize their new building, although completion is not yet at hand.
Scott and Elizabeth Herring and 5 sons are serving with Wycliffe at JAARS in Waxhaw, NC. This family was raised in Calvary and have finally realized their long time dream of serving on the mission field. Scott is director of buildings and maintenance, not only at JAARS but in other facilities around the world.
Paul and Marina Briggs serve as Bible translators among the Loron tribes in West Africa. Their work has been interrupted several times due to the violent fighting among the political factions in the area. They had to leave their home and belongings behind and return to their native Ireland. At this time, they have been given the “All Clear" to return.
Steve and Beth Schoof are, and have been for many years, PCA missionaries in Western Australia. Steve pastors the Bull Creek Church in Perth. At present the church sees a growing number of young families attending their services. This will bring about their decisions of changes needed to accommodate the influx. Whether or not to stay at one service or work into a two service church is one of the decisions to be made. The Schoof’s ask for prayer for their Ruling body.
Meredith and Sandy Elder
and family live in Pennsylvania. They work with World Harvest Missions spreading the word through Sonship courses throughout the United States and Europe (Vienna and Prague, etc.). Meredith is always in touch with his students, (in person or by phone) counseling, advising and encouraging.
Dave and Jan Kiewiet
are also long time missionaries in Queensland, Australia, serving as part of MTW. David worked in the formation of a consortium of reformed colleges for theological training of men for the ministry. He has been invited to move to Toowoomba and become involved in starting a new church.
David and Eleanor Fiol
are serving with MTW in Dehra Dun, India. So many accomplishments have been accredited to their ministry including the Children’s Home, the Home Academy, the Presbyterian Theological Seminary, their own church, “Covenant Church”, and Grace Academy Dehru Dun. Two of their three children and their families are now serving with MTW in Dehra Dun and Taiwan.
Jim and Mary Alice Patterson
are once again serving in Nasuli, Philippine Islands. They had retired back to JAARS from their many years caring for and directing the maintenance facility in Nasuli, but took on an 11 month assignment to oversee the infrastructure of the mission station there.
Rodney and Pam Kinch serve with Wycliffe Bible Translators, translating the New Testament into the language of the Yuruti Tribes in Columbia SA. Due to the very hazardous conditions in Columbia, the Kinch’s now live and work from Bogota.
OTHER MISSIONS: Calvary also focuses on the endeavors of Union Mission/Hope Haven, Bethany Christian Center, Crisis Pregnancy Center, Onesimus Ministry and Reformed University Fellowship.
