Book of the Quarter

Summer 2008

Running Scared
by Edward T. Welch

Each quarter  we are going to highlight a book that we think is worthwhile for reading and discussing.  While we recognize that there is no substitute for reading Scripture, we also know that we can be challenged and edified by reading good books.  So, here is a good book for that purpose.

"One of the haunting dilemmas of the human condition is that fear is 'an inescapable feature of earthly life.' Every person who has lived on this earth has encountered fear. Tragically, for this reason our race for the good life finds us all 'running scared.' In his new  release, Running Scared, Edwards T. Welch investigates the roots of fear in the human soul and the ramifications of living in the grips of anxiety, worry, and dread."

Adam is going to be blogging on this book over the course of the quarter. The hope is that this will provide some encouragement and/or accountability for readers. Readers will also be able to post their own thought, questions, or comments. Click here for more information.

You can purchase a copy of the book for $11 from the church. We have copies on hand in the foyer and will have a sign-up sheet if we need to order more copies. If paying by check, please make checks out to Calvary and write Book of the Quarter on the memo line.

Read Through The Bible in a Year!

If you are looking for a companion to help guide you in reading through the Bible, we recommend John Stott's Through the Bible Through the Year:  Daily reflections from Genesis to Revelation. A daily reflection is included with each suggested reading in Scripture. You can order this book through amazon.com or call the church office for assistance in ordering.
